Description
For sale is a MEP-803A 10kW diesel powered generator that is mounted on a US military trailer. The unit was purchased from a surplus auction and was not running. The unit has since been repaired with a replacement parts listed below. The generator can be unbolted from the trailer if that is desired.Unit was assembled in April of 2000 by Fermont. The engine is a private labeled as a Onan engine but is really a Lister-Petter 4cyl, DN4M-1 diesel engine with a nominal 24 horsepower rating. The electrical generator head is made by Marathon Electric. The generator enclosure is made entirely from aluminum sheets and rolled shapes. The trailer is made from steel. Both generator and trailer were painted with the US Military Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC) paint and the 3-color camouflage paint pattern on top of that.
The trailer is a "1 TON M116A3 CHASSIS" that was made in December of 2000. The trailer was made by Turtle Mountain Manufacturing Co. It has two single tire wheels. Each wheel has a manual parking brake. The pintle ring has surge brakes and a break-away brake. The trailer is made from steel and has a rear fold down support in addition to the front tongue jack.
The set is capable of producing three different power arrangements:
1) 120v/1ph/60Hz @ 104 amps one leg
2) 120/240v/1ph/60Hz @ 52 amps per leg
3) 120/208v/3ph/60Hz @ 34 amps per leg
Since this is a US Military unit, that 10kW rating is based on 4,000 feet above sea level altitude and 95°F entering air temperature. If the generator is below that entering air temperature or below that altitude, then the effective maximum rating goes up. The capacity gauge on the instrument panel goes up to 125%. See the nameplate in the pictures with the derated performance figures and alternative fuels the unit will accept.
Unit features:
*Tactical Quiet sound attenuating materials which should be about 70dBA at a distance of 7 yards.

*Electric governor for speed control
*Trailer tires are 8-bolt, 2-piece wheels with 37x12.5R16.5LT M+S Military Goodyear Wrangler MT tires. Tread depth is more than a half-inch. (I believe these are HMMWV (humvee) wheels and tires.

Items to be warned about:
*Trailer has US military style connection for 24vdc lights (stop turn running) So, you will need a set of trailer lights to haul safely with non-military vehicle. (I used magnet trailer lights set I got from Tractor Supply to haul it home.)
*I have a hand-made jack handle for the trailer tongue jack. (the unit didn't come with one from the surplus sale.)
*The paint is imperfect from handling at the surplus yard and transporting back from Kuwait.
*The stickers and grease-pencil marks are from the surplus yard. I removed many of them, just not all.
*The trailer safety chains are rather short so depending on how long your pintle hook is in relation to your safety chain connections, you may need additional chain or some shackles to extend the length to your vehicle.
If you have additional questions, please ask through the eBay question feature.
